TilawaTrack — Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 11, 2026
TilawaTrack ("the app," "we," "us") is built to respect your privacy. This policy explains what the app does and does not collect.
The short version
- We do not create accounts, or ask for your name, email, or any personal identifier.
- We do not record, store, or transmit your recitation audio.
- Your recitation history and statistics stay on your device.
- The only data that ever leaves your device is anonymous, aggregate usage statistics that contain no personal information.
Microphone
TilawaTrack uses your device's microphone for one purpose: to count the words you recite aloud so it can track your habit and reveal mosque artwork.
- Speech recognition runs on your device whenever the on-device Arabic model is available. When it is not yet installed, the app may fall back to Apple's speech-recognition service to convert speech to text; this is handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy.
- We process speech only to count words. We do not evaluate, grade, or correct your recitation.
- No audio is saved by TilawaTrack, and no audio is sent to our servers (we do not operate servers that receive your audio).
- The app may continue counting in the background (audio background mode) so it can keep counting while you recite from a physical Mushaf or another app. This still only counts words; it does not record.
Data stored on your device
Your sessions, word counts, recitation time, streaks, goals, and mosque progress are stored locally on your device. You can erase all of it at any time in Settings → Start over. Deleting the app also removes this data.
Stat sharing with people you choose (Accountability Circle)
TilawaTrack lets you optionally share a small set of live stats — your chosen display name, current streak, today's minutes versus your goal, recent daily totals (minutes and words per day), lifetime words, and the mosque you're building — with specific people you invite, such as a spouse or friend.
- Sharing is off by default and entirely opt-in.
- It works peer-to-peer through your own iCloud account (Apple CloudKit). The data goes from your iCloud to the people you invite — it never passes through our servers, and we cannot see it.
- Invited people get read-only access, and only to the stats listed above — never your session history or recitation audio.
- You can stop sharing at any time (Stats → Accountability Circle → Manage → Stop Sharing), which removes the shared data. You can likewise stop seeing someone else's stats at any time.
- This feature is handled by Apple's iCloud under Apple's Privacy Policy.
Anonymous analytics
To understand how the app is used and improve it, TilawaTrack uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service. These events are anonymous and aggregated:
- They contain no name, email, account, advertising identifier, or precise location.
- They are not used to track you across apps or websites and are not sold or shared for advertising.
- Examples: that a recitation session was completed, or that a screen was viewed — never the content of your recitation.
Learn more at TelemetryDeck's privacy page.
Purchases
Mosque packs and the Patron unlock are one-time purchases processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment information; Apple handles all payment data under its own privacy policy.
Children
TilawaTrack is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date above. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
